Jonas Peres’ Reinterpretation of “Rain, Steam and Speed” by J. M. W. Turner (1775 -1851): This work takes on new life through a modern 21st-century perspective. Using an expressionist language of saturated and vibrant colors, typical of the New York Color Field School, Jonas Peres intentionally avoids any figurative object such as the train in the original work, to focus all the strength of the work on a very intense light, which, together with the impasto textures, convey more emotion than the objective reality of the work.

Turner’s work portrays the amazing power of nature over human beings. The Impressionists carefully studied his techniques to elucidate the power of his works. From modern art to abstract art, everyone has been influenced by this artist who was a master at depicting ephemeral atmospheric effects.
